Passage: Galatians 3:1-5 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: Gospel Rooted Living
Speaker: Lukus Counterman - Paul has shown in Galatians 2 that we are saved when we stop trusting in our moral efforts (or the law) and trust in the work of Christ, which creates a whole new motivation for everything we do. The gospel is the way we enter the Kingdom of God. But Paul goes on and shows that the gospel is much more than a means of entrance. We are not only saved by the gospel, but we also grow by the gospel. Paul is saying that we don’t begin by faith and then proceed and grow through our works. We are not only justified by faith in Christ, we are also sanctified by faith in Christ. We never leave the gospel behind. Colossians 2:6 says, “Therefore as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him.” In our text this morning, Paul calls the straying Galatian believers back to their roots. He calls them back to the cross and their first encounter with the gospel. Then he reasons with them from their conversion experience, that the way they started (by faith) is the way they must live. Quite simply, the just live by faith from start to finish. May the Lord help us remember our roots, and go back to a life of faith.
