August 03, 2014

Passage: Exodus 20:12 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: Ten Commandments

Speaker: Lukus Counterman - It’s easy to talk about loving other people in general terms, but actualizing it is more of a challenge than you might think. The phrase, “Love your neighbor” seems to roll right off your tongue, but the problem comes when the principle is first applied in the home. The fact of the matter is none of us can claim to love our neighbor if we are shrugging off our parents. The 5th commandment instructs us to honor our father and mother. Love for others begins with displaying love for those who raised us – our parents. This morning we are going to learn what it means to honor our parents, how we can practically honor them through the different stages of life, and then what’s at stake if we fail to follow God’s command. In other words, the 5th Commandment teaches us the meaning, application, and importance of honoring our parents. May the Lord impress his Word upon our hearts this morning.
