Passage: Ephesians 5:22-33 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: Identity in Christ
Speaker: Lukus Counterman - Ephesians 5:22-33 is the longest discussion in the New Testament on the roles of husbands and wives. Among believers, it has become the most popular and significant passage for developing a Christian view of marriage. As we study it, God’s will for respective roles can be summarized this way: Wives are supposed to embrace beautiful submission, and Husbands are supposed to embrace honorable headship and sacrificial love. When these roles come to bear in a Christian marriage, they picture Christ’s relationship to the church. Just as Jesus led and loved his church so husbands are supposed to lead and love their wives. And just as the church joyfully submits to Christ, so wives are supposed to joyfully submit to their husbands. May the Lord be glorified as we get in our appropriate places and model biblical marriage.
