Passage: Malachi 2:17-3:5 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: Advent
Speaker: Lukus Counterman - The people of Israel in Malachi’s day were such hypocrites. While the priests failed to teach God’s word, and while the people failed to bring acceptable sacrifices to the temple, they had the audacity to call for God’s judgment on others. When God’s patience prevailed and his justice was delayed as a window of amnesty, the people accused God of not caring. “Where is the God of justice,” they asked in a snarky tone. Well, God is the judge of all the earth and he will do what is right in his time. One day all will be held accountable. But while we await his coming let us each receive his cleansing. May we be purified instead of purged. May we be cleansed instead of consumed. (2Pet. 3:9-10) puts it like this, “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promises as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish but that all should reach repentance. The Day of the Lord will come…”
