Passage: Genesis 5:1-32 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: Beginning - Genesis 1-12
Speaker: Lukus Counterman - As we dive into Genesis chapter five today, we encounter a new (toledot) section. “This is the book of the generations of Adam.” Here, we find the link between Adam and Noah, and the result of sin in the human race. The predominant theme of the chapter is death – “and he died” occurs eight times. In spite of human achievements (Genesis 4:17-22), death reigns throughout the generations. Death is in contrast to the divine blessing and due to the presence of the curse. So the question is this, “Is there any hope for mankind after the curse, or is death the only possible end?” Adam’s sin plunged us into this dark fate (Romans 5:12). If only there was a “second Adam” who could rescue us. If only there was representative for mankind that could offer life. If only there was hope for relief and rest from the curse. The good news, the Gospel, is Jesus. “For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:17).
