Passage: Luke 8:5-14 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: Gospel Seed
Speaker: Lukus Counterman - In Luke 8:5-15, Jesus explains the proclamation of the gospel message in terms of a sower scattering seeds. Jesus paints the picture of an ancient farmer with a sack over his shoulder and as he walks he spreads the potential of a future harvest. Seeds fall this way and that, but in prayerful hope the sower longs to see them fall on good ground.
The word of the kingdom of heaven is like a SEED in at least three ways, (1) it is meant to be spread, (2) it has the potential to grow and bring forth spiritual fruit, and (3) it must be received by the good soil of a faith-filled heart. That is what Jesus described in his parable.
Now we can’t control the soil of a recipient’s heart, but we can be faithful to spread the Gospel Seed. So as we obey the Lord and proclaim the message of eternal life, we plant and we water, all the while waiting on God to bring a harvest of souls (See 1 Corinthians 3:6-9 for more on this imagery of Gospel seeds).
