Passage: Philippians 4:19 Speaker: John Moon Series: Standalone Messages
Speaker: John Moon - Today as we finish 2017 we will look at the closing of Paul’s letter to the church in Philippi. This letter is a very encouraging little letter to this church that he loves very much. The church in Philippi was the first church that Paul planted in Europe. You can read the story of how that happened in Acts 16. It’s just an unbelievable story. If you read through the letter, it’s very obvious that Paul has great affection for these believers in Philippi. Most of the letters in the New Testament are full of correction and reproof. This one is not. Overall, this is a very positive letter. In fact, it’s arguably the most positive letter that Paul wrote in terms of what he wanted to say to the church. So his purpose in writing this letter is to encourage them. He’s in jail when he wrote it, so he wanted to encourage them. But then he also wanted to give them some instruction and thank them for a gift of support that they had sent him while he was in prison. Paul is going to deliver one of the most treasured promises in scripture with a masterful stroke. “My God will supply every need of your according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” May God give us future grace to rest in his supply to his Glory as we look into the New Year.
