Passage: Luke 11:1-13 Speaker: Pastor Josh MacAvoy Series: Luke - Past Promises, Present Redemption
Speaker: Josh MacAvoy - The disciples have been traveling with Jesus for a number of years, learning much and observing how he lives. One thing that they have seen is how often Jesus prays. It is almost continual. It has been a part of the major movements of his ministry so far. He prays when he is performing miracles, he prayed when he was baptized, he is praying on mountains, praying at night and praying alone. It seems like Jesus is always praying and the disciples realize this is something they must learn from Jesus. But Jesus doesn’t just give a standard set of words to be repeated as a prayer. He is trying to teach the disciples in the first century, and his disciples today, so much more. And in this lesson, Jesus shows that often we have an incomplete model, the wrong mindset, and fearful motives when we pray. In preparation for the message tomorrow, read Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:1-13. Then pray that God would teach you the lessons you need to learn about prayer.
