Passage: Proverbs 14:26-27 Speaker: Pastor Josh MacAvoy Series: Proverbs
Speaker: Josh MacAvoy - Tomorrow we will be in the book of Proverbs again. And the theme of the day will be one of the major themes in Biblical wisdom literature and the Bible as a whole, the theme of “Fear of the Lord”. A quick reading of proverbs shows that the Fear of the Lord “is the beginning of knowledge” (1:7), requires diligent searching (2:4-6), is better than great treasure (15:16), and “leads to life” (19:23). Now, if the fear of the Lord is so important, isn’t this something we should seek to understand and pursue with great effort? But what is “the fear of the Lord”? And what about the thought that “fear is a negative thing that we should avoid, rather than promote”? Through our time together, we will prayerfully seek to understand that, “Living in the fear of the Lord is the wisest way to live."
